PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana
In an attempt to increase the solar rooftop capacity and pave the way for energy independence for households, the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana was approved by the Government of India in February 2024.
Under the scheme, beneficiaries will get the following subsidies for the different capacities installed.

Who is eligible for PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana
- The applicant should be an Indian citizen
- The applicant should own a house whose rooftop is feasible for the solar panels to be set up.
- The applicant’s household should have a valid electricity connection from the local electricity distribution company.
- The applicant should not have availed of any other subsidy with respect to solar panels.
Documents required to be submitted for PM Surya Ghar Yojana
Here is the list of documents required for availing of solar rooftop yojana:
- Address proof – Aadhaar card, Voter ID, or passport
- Identity proof- Aadhaar card, Voter ID, passport or driving license
- A recent electricity bill in the applicant’s name
- Proof of ownership of the roof where solar panels are proposed to be installed
How to apply for Solar Rooftop Yojana
- Visit pmsuryaghar.gov.in and register using your mobile number under “Apply for rooftop solar”
- Choose your state, district, and electricity distribution company
- When the distribution company approves the application you can choose a vendor
- After commissioning, you can present your bank details and a cancelled cheque for the subsidy to be credited.
