Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: How does a solar panel turn sunlight into electricity? Students at GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow, got a clear answer when Freyr Energy ran a set of solar awareness sessions on the school campus.
The sessions were led by Ms. Radhika Choudary, Co-Founder and Director of Freyr Energy. Titled “Let’s Power Up with the Sun!”, the programme was planned for students in Classes 6 to 9. The goal was to explain solar energy in plain language, with real examples and plenty of room for questions.
Starting with the basics of solar energy
Ms. Choudary began with how solar panels work. She explained how sunlight is converted into electricity, and how solar power can lower our dependence on conventional energy sources.
From there, the students looked at where solar PV is already being used. Homes, schools, hospitals, factories and airports all came up. The talk also covered newer uses, including solar-powered buildings, satellites and electric vehicles, so students could see that solar goes well beyond the rooftop.
Reading an electricity bill
One part of the session was about home electricity use. Students learned how to read an electricity bill and spot the appliances that use the most power. They also talked about why bills rise when an air conditioner runs all summer, or when a family starts charging an electric vehicle at home.
This led naturally into rooftop solar system sizing. Students saw how the size of a solar system is linked to how much electricity a household uses, and how solar panels can bring down a monthly electricity bill. Tying solar to everyday things like fans, fridges and ACs helped the idea land.
“My Solar-Powered Future” drawing competition
Freyr Energy also held a drawing competition called “My Solar-Powered Future.” Students drew what a cleaner world could look like: homes with solar panels on the roof, green cities and healthier neighbourhoods. It gave them a way to share their ideas about renewable energy through art instead of a lecture.
The students were also encouraged to pick up simple habits, like switching off lights and fans when they’re not needed, avoiding wasted electricity, and sharing what they learned with their families.
Why Freyr Energy runs sessions like this
For Freyr Energy, rooftop solar is only part of the job. The company believes people should understand clean energy before they decide to use it, and that the younger generation can lead the way on energy saving.
The visit to GD Goenka Public School gave students a chance to connect what they study in class with real energy questions. Freyr Energy thanked the management, teachers and students of GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow, for their enthusiasm and support.
The message from the day was a simple one: a greener future starts with small actions today, and everyone has a part to play at any age.
